In the last few weeks that we were in Cangzhou we met Kyle's uncle, Michael, who was an English teacher. He is Chinese, but he's super fluent in English. We spent a little time with him, he showed us his English school, and somewhere in there he invited us to come to play ping pong at his ping pong club. I'm embarrassingly bad at ping pong, so I left most of the playing up to Tom. Fortunately for us, we played in a private room (everyone else was out playing in one big room together), so no one could see us get whipped.
Michael went pretty easy on him at first, but then decided to kick it up a notch and bust out his ancient wisdom on Tom. It was all over after that. So then we pretty much just watched Michael play against his club buddies. Those guys are so fast. And they do this crazy hand floaty thing when they serve. Pretty impressive.
Michael's ping pong clubhouse was located on the top floor of a building, and off of its balcony we got this panoramic picture of the developing area of the city. Lots of buildings being built - and at least half of them were empty, and made little to no progress in the 6 months we lived in the city. This was a typical sight in all of the Chinese cities we visited.
