Police and Donkey Meat

Friday, September 14

After our early morning reading classes, we came back to our apartment, where there was apparently some construction going on above us. Bleh, the noise was awful awful. Susan called us in the midst of the noises and told us we needed to go with her to the police station to get our residency permits. So we scooted there with her (she has a scoot scoot, too) and spent basically all morning there. I missed teaching my third grade class and we missed lunch. Apparently there was something wrong with the electronic copy of some documents or something that had to be fixed in another office. After waiting for a couple of hours, we decided to just go back to the school and go back later to finish. On our way back, we picked up some delicious waffle cone type things from a street vendor. Yum. Since we missed the cafeteria lunch, Susan treated us to a specialized cuisine for lunch: donkey meat. It was actually quite delicious. It came served in crispy pita-type-things. We also got some soup that had little donkey meat-filled dumplings and baby shrimps in it. Tom ate most of the soup because I had a hard time with the baby shrimps looking at me; they still had eyes. The meat really just tasted like extra-tasty beef. Yum.

You may not be able to tell, but everything in this picture is tiny.
Tiny loaf of bread; tiny jam; tiny peanut butter. I love tiny things.
After our nap, tom taught grade 6 while I prepared a tiny peanut butter and jelly sandwich for Susan. We delivered the sandwich, realized that it was too late to go back to the police station to finish our business there, and scooted out for a hot date.

On our hot date we shopped around and ate at a restaurant. We got kung pow chicken and shredded potatoes. It was so yummy, but we ordered way too much food and had to take the potatoes home for leftovers.
